Ava Whetstone-Magee the founder of Avalanche Equestrian has always dreamt of owning an equestrian clothing brand. Then the idea struck, Ava was stuck in a field up to her knees in mud with her horse Toby. It was pitch black, her mum was looking for her with a torch and she could only see Toby because of the reflective stripe on his rug. This led to a light-bulb moment, to design stylish and practical clothing. The SeeMe range was created, and further product developments such as the famous YARD range, the first “Hay Proof”, “Woodflour proof”, and “Hair Proof” clothing on the market. Ava is allergic to Hay so she had to find a solution that worked and with 12 months of testing, she finally launched the YARD range.
Ava said “ Avalanche Equestrian is very personal to me, Avalanche started because of my horse Toby, he’s the reason for the success of the brand. I sadly lost Toby to cancer on the 16th of November 2021, I am still heartbroken and will always be but the day after he passed we had the email confirming our shop in Midsummer Place Milton Keynes which was the first equestrian brand in a mall, I felt like Toby did this for a reason and was telling me not to give up “.
Since the pop-up shop the brand has grown so much this is due to hard work support and not giving up. I want to show all young people that no matter what people say never give up on your dreams. I started Avalanche when I was 14 with sketches of what I wanted my clothes to look like. I am now 17 years old going to the biggest equestrian events in the Uk with Avalanche showcasing clothing that is designed for a reason, not just fast fashion.
Be you and follow your dreams.
FUN FACT!- Avalanche is called this because the founders name is Ava and also an Avalanche sounds like galloping horses!
